RSF adviser denies reports of talks with SAF junta in Port Sudan

A senior adviser to Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) rejected media claims on Thursday that the group is ready to negotiate with the junta operating from Port Sudan.

Azeldin al-Safi, an RSF negotiator and aide to commander Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (known as Hemedti), said in a Facebook statement that remarks attributed to him by Al-Hadath television and the Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper were “entirely fabricated.”

“Since the war began on 15 April, I have never used the term ‘Port Sudan government,’” al-Safi wrote, accusing the outlets of deliberately misquoting him. He reiterated that the RSF recognizes only the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) as its counterpart at the negotiating table, a position he said the group has maintained in all Jeddah-brokered talks.

Al-Safi dismissed the Port Sudan junta as a “hijacked power” using state institutions “to kill the people and sow hatred,” and vowed that the RSF would continue “liberating Sudanese cities” and build a new state founded on justice and peace.
