RSF detains Brotherhood, SAF collaborators in East Darfur crackdown

The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) detained at least 20 individuals in the town of Abu Matariq, East Darfur, on Wednesday as part of an ongoing campaign targeting those suspected of supporting General al-Burhan’s forces and allied jihadist groups (SAF).

Witnesses told Darfur 24 that those arrested included members of the former ruling National Congress Party (NCP), Sudan’s National Security Service (NSS), and the Popular Defense Forces (PDF).

The RSF accuses them of collaborating with the SAF.

The arrests are part of a broader crackdown launched by the RSF on June 6 in El Daein, the capital of East Darfur State. That operation also targeted members of the Islamic Movement and NSS officials under similar accusations.

The campaign follows a state of general mobilization and high alert declared by local authorities in East Darfur. Last week, RSF spokesman Al-Fatih Qureshi warned in a public address in El Daein that opposition to the RSF’s directives would not be tolerated.

Tensions remain high in East Darfur as the conflict between the RSF and SAF intensifies across Sudan.
