The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) announced on Thursday that they had taken control of Al-Malha in North Darfur following more than two months of fighting.
In a statement, the RSF claimed to have inflicted heavy losses on their adversaries, seizing 185 combat vehicles and killing over 380 fighters from General al-Burhan’s army (SAF) and allied armed groups.
The Sudanese group described the battle as a major victory, saying it had dismantled what it called a key “mercenary camp” used by its opponents. The RSF accused the armed movements of working to destabilize the region and claimed their defeat had disrupted an alleged intelligence operation linked to Sudan’s former ruling Islamic Movement.
The RSF vowed to continue its military campaign, stating that its objective is to secure North Darfur and prevent further conflict. The group also reaffirmed its commitment to protecting civilians, despite ongoing accusations of human rights abuses in areas under its control.
The SAF and allied factions have yet to respond to the RSF’s claims. Fighting between the two sides has intensified across Sudan, particularly in Darfur, where the RSF has been steadily expanding its territorial control.
