RSF reports major victories against SAF in Sudanese conflict

Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) on Tuesday announced that they had achieved significant victories in two critical battles against General Burhan’s military (SAF), Islamic Movement, and mercenary factions from the former regime.

The RSF said they had successfully liberated the strategic Mount Moye area between Sennar and White Nile states, capturing 57 vehicles, destroying 12, and eliminating hundreds of enemy combatants.

SAF suffered substantial casualties, with over 300 killed, 37 fully equipped combat vehicles seized and seven destroyed during the battle in Sennar, RSF said.

RSF added that a counterattack by the Islamic Movement and Popular Defence Forces was repelled and ended with the enemy forces being pushed back to the western edge of Sennar state.

20 additional vehicles were captured and five were destroyed during this second battle, the fleeing fighters also left behind weapons, ammunition, and prisoners, RSF said.

Since mid-April 2023, conflict involving the General Burhan’s forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) has claimed approximately 13,900 lives and displaced more than 8.5 million Sudanese, according to UN reports, marking one of the largest displacement crises since World War II.

Despite international mediation efforts, the conflict has persisted into its second year, exacerbating Sudan’s humanitarian plight.
