RSF says weapons seized, hostages rescued in North Darfur operation

Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF) say they have conducted a military operation in Zamzam camp, North Darfur, seizing weapons and rescuing civilians held by enemy forces.

In a statement, the RSF said that SAF-affiliated militias and mercenary groups had turned the camp into a military base, storing arms and training fighters inside the displaced persons’ settlement.

The Sudanese group said its forces launched an operation to dismantle the alleged base and “liberate” civilians from armed elements.

“We obtained irrefutable evidence confirming that Zamzam camp had been transformed into a fully equipped military base, with weapons depots and command centers,” the RSF statement read.

The RSF accused SAF-aligned forces of launching attacks from the camp and attempting to use civilians as human shields. It denied allegations of human rights violations, insisting that its forces acted with “military professionalism” and only targeted armed elements.

RSF also blamed SAF chief, Gen. Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and his allied jihadist militias for endangering displaced civilians, calling it a violation of international humanitarian law.

The RSF urged human rights and humanitarian organizations to pressure armed movements to halt military activities in civilian areas.

The situation in Darfur has sharply deteriorated amid Sudan’s broader conflict between the RSF and General al-Burhan’s forces (SAF), which has displaced millions and fueled allegations of war crimes.
