The Rapid Support Forces (RSF) announced on Thursday that they had taken full control of the strategic city of En-Nahud, located in West Kordofan, following intense fighting throughout the day.
A video released by RSF fighters from the heart of the city confirmed their victory.
Battles had been raging since morning between the RSF and remnants of the Muslim Brotherhood’s militias, including the Popular Defense Forces and Mobilized Fighters.
Military sources told Assayha that RSF units successfully breached the enemy’s defenses and captured the local government headquarters, securing control of the city.
Although the city is now firmly under RSF control, sources reported that clashes continue on the outskirts, with some fighters fleeing the area. RSF members documented their victory with video footage taken outside the local government building, marking their dominance in En-Nahud.
Sources close to the RSF revealed that they had communicated with Civil Administration leaders to ensure General al-Burhan’s army (SAF) and its allied militias withdrew from the city to avoid conflict in civilian areas. However, leadership within the Islamist brigades has begun arming civilian groups to resist the RSF’s control.
En-Nahud had been the last stronghold of SAF, with all other localities previously falling under RSF control.
The city’s capture significantly disrupts General al-Burhan’s plans to break the RSF’s siege on El-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur.
Youssef Awad, the head of the Civil Administration linked to the RSF, urged citizens to avoid joining militant groups and to remain in their homes for safety. He assured the public that RSF forces were capable of protecting both civilians and vital infrastructure following the city’s liberation.
In response to potential retaliation, the RSF has deployed specialized military units to safeguard civilians and property in En-Nahud, ensuring that the Sudanese Army and affiliated militias do not harm public or private assets.
