The Rapid Support Forces (RSF)-aligned civil administrations in Darfur and Kordofan are exploring plans to hold Sudanese Secondary Certificate Examinations in areas under their control, marking a potential shift in the country’s fractured education landscape.
Tijani El Tahir Karshom, head of the Civil Administration in West Darfur, announced the move Saturday during the launch of primary school exams in El Geneina, where over 1,700 students are sitting for their tests—including children of displaced families and refugees from eastern Chad.
Karshom said the exclusion of Darfur and much of Kordofan from last year’s national exams—held only in regions controlled by General al-Burhan’s army (SAF)—amounted to a deliberate act of educational injustice.
“This confirms our readiness to professionally manage exams at all levels,” Karshom stated, signaling RSF’s intent to offer full academic participation to students in territories it governs.
Educational authorities in West Darfur said logistical and technical preparations are complete, with intermediate-level exams scheduled for July 19. RSF currently controls nearly all of Darfur and significant parts of Kordofan.
