A warplane belonging to General al-Burhan’s army (SAF) bombed Al-Mujlad Reference Hospital on Saturday, killing at least 41 civilians and injuring scores of patients, relatives and medical staff, according to West Kordofan’s Emergency Rooms network.
Eyewitnesses said the strike hit the main wards without warning, tearing through operating theatres and crowded corridors. “Bodies were everywhere—patients, nurses, even people waiting to be seen,” one witness told Darfur 24.
The Emergency Rooms group condemned the attack as “a heinous crime” against a vital civilian facility and urged the United Nations and international rights organisations to investigate, hold those responsible to account and provide urgent protection for Sudan’s health-care infrastructure.
Under international humanitarian law, hospitals enjoy special protection; deliberate attacks on them constitute war crimes.
